About
David Oistrakh made his debut when he was merely 5 years of age, at which time he was already a student of Pyotr Stoliarsky at the Odessa Conservatory. In 1923 he was a soloist with the Odessa Orchestra and in 1927 he was invited by Alexander Glazunov to play his violin concerto – with Glazunov conducting the Kiev Symphony Orchestra.
From his mid-thirties, and for the rest of his life, David Oistrakh was one of the most respected violinists of the 20th century, both through live performance and commercial recordings. He had a unique sense of style and elegance and his mastery of the violin was staggering. His playing had excitement, charm and grace, with a powerful, warm singing tone.
Live performances, Sweden 1970-74.
